Quilling Rolled, Scrolled, Crimped and Folded: The Art of Filigree Paperwork

Quilling or paper filigree is the art of curling pieces of paper into loose rolls.
These rolls are then glued into place to form a free standing theme or a framed piece. Various lengths and widths of paper are used to accomplish this form of art. Quilling acquired its name due to the tool first used, a quill. During the Victorian era, this art was introduced into the United States. Pieces can be seen in various museums in Great Britain, Europe and the United States.
The art of quilling caught my heart in 1974, after my first child was born. For ten years this love was a hobby.
Upon starting my business, Paper Petites, I began creating my own designs and doing local shows while my family was growing, now three children. In 1988, I became a juried member of The Lehigh Valley Chapter and found myself surrounded by many talented artisans. I later was juried in The Reading Berks Chapter in 1994 and a year later passed State Jurying at The Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen level.
I continue to love quilling and constantly am inspired by everything I see and touch.
Each year I introduce a new tree ornament, framed wall hangings or free standing scenes to my quilling designs. Quilling is a highly time intensive art.
